Summer Months
Madison County Republicans are still active. We may have been quieter over the summer months, but we are getting ready to start up in August. On August 20 at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm for networking) at the Senior Center on Highway 98 (beside the library) we will be meeting. Our speaker will be Mike Griffin of the Georgia Baptist Convention, Public Affairs Representative. He will speak to us about RFRA (Religious Freedom Restoration Act) in Georgia.
We are planning to meet the third Thursday of every month with the possible exceptions of December and July. Commissioner Lauren “Bubba” McDonald of the Georgia Public Service Commission will speak on Thursday, September 17 at the Senior Center. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.
Some of us were busy this spring. We have a new executive time. Angela Bush will be our new chair. Laurie Webster will be vice chair. Suzanne Hudgens will be treasurer. Mike Bush will be secretary. Bruce Azevedo will still be active. He is now the chairman of the 9th District GOP.
Several members attended the 9th District GOP convention in April. A number attended the banquet on Friday night where we heard from our two Senators. On Saturday, Congressman Doug Collins spoke to us. We elected a new executive for the 9th District GOP (including our own Bruce Azevedo) and voted on several resolutions.
In May we sent a delegation to the State Convention in Athens. Three presidential primary candidates spoke at different times including Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz. We heard from many Georgia political officials. A new set of state officers was elected. We also voted on a number resolutions.
