Precinct/County Meetings 2015

Precinct/County Meetings 2015

This is the time once again for electing the officers for the county, district and state Republican party organizations who will lead the party through the critical 2016 election cycle.

On Saturday, March 14, at 9:00, we will have the precinct meetings at the Madison County Courthouse, Commissioners Room .  All registered voters resident in Madison County are eligible to attend this meeting, where delegates to the Madison GOP County Convention will be elected.  This is the start of the party process of deciding who will lead the party for the next two years.  You must (repeat MUST) be there no later than 9:00.  There are no exceptions.

The Madison GOP County Convention starts right at 10:00, also on March 14.  Delegates from the precincts will vote on the party rules, the officers for the county party, and for delegates and alternates who will go to the District and State Conventions.
AT THE COUNTY MEETING AND CONVENTION ON MARCH 14

(1) Precinct captains.  At the 9:00 Precinct meetings on March 14, we will be looking for precinct captains for 12 precincts.  Precinct captains are the foot soldiers in a way because they are the contact points for the party in each precinct.  They become increasingly important as we head into the 2016 Presidential election.

(2) County Party Officers.  We will be electing a Chairman,  Vice Chair, a Secretary, and a Treasurer.  If you are interested, put together information about your skills and qualifications, and give it to the Nominating Committee, preferably before the convention, but it can be done at the convention as well.  You are also free to announce that you are seeking election to a certain officer position, and to ask for support at the February Meeting.

(3)  Delegates and alternates to the District Convention will be elected.  The 9th District convention is on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 10:00 am until done (usually between 1:00 and 3:00 pm).  The location is the Jefferson County Civic Center.  There is a fee of $20 per person (which covers costs of holding convention).  Madison County is allocated 12 delegates and 12 alternates at the District convention, the officers for the District are elected, as well as the District’s representatives on the State Committee. The Banquet cost on Friday Night is $40 per person. If interested in being a delegate or alternate to the District, please send your name and background to Bruce Azevedo  Azevedo@negia.net

(4)  Delegates and alternates to the GOP State convention will be elected.  The State convention is Friday and Saturday, May 15-16, in Athens, GA at the Classic Center.  The business session for electing state party officers and handling other business matters is on Saturday.  Madison County GOP has 9 delegates and 9 alternates to the State.   If interested in being a delegate or alternate to the State Convention please send your name and background to Bruce Azevedo  Azevedo@negia.net

About Delegates and Alternates. Going to these conventions can be really interesting and a lot of fun believe it or not, but before you give us your name to go to one or both of the above conventions, please note the following:

Make sure that you can make the meeting date and can stay as long as it takes to complete convention business.  Although we have alternates, they are there, only in case of an unexpected problem that keeps a delegate from attending.   Also, the convention meetings can go longer than expected, especially the State convention..  You will be expected to stay until the convention business is completed, however late that may be, so prepare accordingly.  We cannot put in an alternate if you leave early, and if too many leave, it can also impact quorums, so don’t plan to leave.

Delegates and alternates are nominated primarily based on party support and political involvement, e.g. volunteering, being an officer or elected official, representing the party, working for candidates, or other similar efforts.  You will want to provide that information when you send in your name.  We also recognize that there are those just beginning to get involved or who have made other contributions, and where space is available, there can be opportunities for others as well.

If you wish to be one of the 24 District Delegates, or one of the 18 State Delegates  please email  Bruce Azevedo  @  Azevedo@negia.net and I will forward your name to the nominating Chair.prior to March 9th…

I will not be running for re-election as Madison County Chairman. I am a candidate for the 9th Congressional District Chairman position. I ask for your vote at the District Convention.
